Electrician Recommendations
-
The recommendations list looks very
helpful; I'm sure it would have saved us from the frustrating experience
that we had with El Cerrito Electric, which was as follows: 1. The owner,
who does the job estimates, showed up late and was so rushed that he hardly
had time to answer questions (that should have been a warning flag.) 2. The
job was estimated for one day and scheduled for early morning. However, the
workman showed up in the afternoon (we had moved furniture and prepared the
work space for the early appointment.) 3. He didn't have drop clothes, so I
got out sheets for him to use, and we had to dispose of the mess, sweep the
floor and clean the sheets. 4. He came back a second day, still without drop
clothes, for a total of 8 hours of work. 5. We were billed for 14 hours at
$107/hour, which included 2 hours of travel time (from El Cerrito!) because
he came two half-days instead of the scheduled one day. 6. They charged us
for 3 hours of work, never done, that was supposed to have been finished
during the one day estimated. The worker didn't know about this last small
project, didn't have the part, and the company didn't even have the part. 7.
We questioned the bill and were told that someone would get back to us, but
no one ever did, so we paid them for 8 hours labor and 1 hour
transportation. They cashed the check without another word. I'm giving you
these ridiculous details in hopes of saving other homeowners from this
unprofessional, frustrating experience. (April, 2008)
- After reviewing the Share the Wealth recommendations, we
called Bill Simmons(510) 233-3356. Great choice. He lives in BYL, accommodated
our schedules, was efficient, reliable and affordable. And more importantly,
he did a very good job. (June, 2006)

David O'Donoghue Lighting Design (707)
935-7975. Worth the price ($100/hr). Very detailed design. (March, 2005)
-
Finnegan Electric at 530-8848 - I think his name is Mark
Finnegan. He came over last year to buy a used synthesizer from me (He plays
in a band), paid me cash on the spot, and I asked him if he could get the fan
to stop blowing when I turn on the bathroom light. He quickly analyzed the
situation, re-did the wiring, and now I don't, thankfully, have to hear the
fan every time. He charged a very reasonable amount for what seemed like very
expert work. (February, 2005)
-
Bob from Cal Com Electric (925) 372-9015 just did
some major electrical work on my mom's old home here in the Point and she is very pleased with the work
(and his price was considerably less than the other two electricians she
spoke with about the job). (February, 2005)
-
Bill Simmons is the best. He's a retired
electrical contractor; lives here in Brickyard. He's in the directory. (July,
2004)
-
Bob Culpit, Cal Com Electric (925) 372-9015
comes highly recommended. (March, 2004)
-
Ida, I just had wall heaters installed - my radiant went out. Ken recommended
Bob at Cal Com Electric (925) 372-9015
as the appointed installer for Brickyard
- he was EXCELLENT - neat and timely - he has done a lot of work at Brickyard
and is familiar with the buildings. I would highly recommend him - you have to
call and track him down but he will call back!!! (March, 2004)
-
A local electrical contractor - Emmett Zediker -410 1977. He's done some work
for me, and several others at the point.

My mom had Bill Simmons (510) 233-3356 replace
all of her electrical outlets in her home which was built in 1904 ... and she
was very pleased with his work. I know he does an awful lot of handy-work
around Brickyard but I think someone told me he is an electrician by trade.
Hope that helps. (March, 2004)
