DSL Service
-
Hi, I used Earthlink DSL for 1 yr. And it would go down every so often and
getting it fixed became a major headache, so I switched to Comcast, which
is also a major headache. (July, 2004)

1.
I recently switched my Earthlink dial up to DSL, and I am very pleased
with the performances. So far I haven't had any problems and the
connection I get is even faster than the more expensive service in my
office. Because Earthlink uses the standard telephone lines, my guess is
that it has the same performances as SBC (or any other DSL providers).
2. I have had Earthlink DSL (Static IP address) for several years and
have had no problems. I had SBC prior to them hooking up with Yahoo and
also had no problems. The speed is good. I use it in business and could
not afford to have the outages like people are experiencing with Comcast.
By the way, the static IP address has nothing to do with the reliability.
It simply means that my address on the internet is always the same. You
pay extra for that and is only helpful if you connect to a host network
(home office as an example). It make it easier for the home office
'firewall' to identify you and allow you in. (July, 2004)

I used Earthlink DSL for a long time, and I found it
reliable but slow. That's why I switched to Comcast. Lucky me. (July,

I have had SBC
for a couple years now and I think it works well, however, my friends who
have cable say it is faster. I suppose all DSL users are aware that you
can ask your provider to "reprice" your service if their promotional rate
for new subscribers is less than the rate you are paying. They seem very
willing to do it; all you have to do is ask them. (July, 2004)

I
have SBC DSL and overall I am pleased. I have had DSL for over a year and
I had a serious problem only once when I could not connect to the
internet. It was a short lived problem as I remember. I am listening to
all the issues with Comcast and it amazes me. My speed is good and I do
not have anywhere near the problems that everyone is bringing up. I
recommend SBC DSL. (July, 2004)
