General Repairs
-
Smog Check, Super Auto - Tin, 630
San Pablo Ave, Albany, CA 510-526-4490. (April, 2008)
- I’d like to recommend Steve’s Auto Care,
with 2 locations on San Pablo Avenue. They are very reasonable, do a great
job, and they will take you home (to BYL, Point Richmond, etc.) and pick you
up while they are working on your car. They are Honda, Toyota and Acura
specialists; will work on most other cars except German ones. They sell tires
and do alignments at the Richmond location. Call 510/526-3906 for the Albany
shop (744 San Pablo Ave, near Solano Avenue); the Richmond location (12267
San Pablo Ave, near Barrett Ave) is at 510/965-9400. (March, 2006)
- Re tires: Costco has the best deal going I think. Good
quality tires and a free rotate and balance every 7000miles. That is hard to
beat. (July, 2005)
-
Our favorite is Mr. Narasaki on Harbor. Very
reliable and reasonable. (March 2005)
-
For anyone with tire needs, flat tires, tire rotation
concerns, etc. We have a very good, reliable, and reasonable source in our
very neighborhood: J and O's Tire Center, 533 S. 13th Street, Richmond. tel.
237-6344 M-F 7am-5:30PM, call and talk to Jerry Talbot. I highly recommend
them. (June, 2005)

This mechanic has been
working on all of our cars for several years. We have found him to
be efficient & honest. He is also close. He is in the group of buildings
between the Mechanics Bank and the Chevron Station, across from Washington
School. And he's a nice guy, my wife says he doesn't 'try' to treat her
like a 'dumb blonde'. (March 2005)

Auto Point
Motor
999 West
Cutting Blvd.
Point Richmond, CA 94804
(510)
232-0000
- Foreign Auto Repair, 401-A 23rd
Street Richmond. 233-0584. Owned by nice couple, Victor
(can’t remember his last name) and his wife. It’s
north of MacDonald a few blocks. They’ve been there for at least 10-15 years.
My sister took her Camry wagon there for years, as do other neighbors. She
totally trusted their work – they’re more than fair. I used to take my car
there too; only reason I stopped is due to fact they don’t have weekend hours
and close shop up at 5pm, which doesn’t work due to my commute schedule.
(March 2005)
- I highly recommend Precision Peoples on San Pablo and
Gilman in Berkeley, 524-1911. I've used them for the past 8 years and find
them very good and very obliging. (March 2005)
- For Toyotas, we find Oceanworks in Berkeley first rate (he
also does Honda). We know 2 cars he successfully nurtured from early 80's
which are still alive and prospering. For an old Volvo, we have been very
satisfied with Bob's Volvo, also in Berkeley. Both places are honest,
competent and pleasant. (March 2005)
- I just had an auto repair emergency late on a Thursday
afternoon, and after a flurry of research into what it would cost me to get my
car to my regular mechanic on MacArthur Blvd & Piedmont Ave, I discovered R &
R Services on Fairmount Avenue next to the El Cerrito Plaza Bart station. They
have a gas station, a tow service and full service auto repair including
foreign cars. (Mine is an Acura. I saw Toyotas, BMWs and other cars there.)
R & R was able to repair my car on Friday, when my regular mechanic in
Oakland couldn't look at my car until the following Monday. Towing from
Brickyard cost me $45, and the service technician rate is $65 per hour, which
is very reasonable. FYI, the business is Indian owned and operated, and the
tow operator had limited English language skills, if anyone has a problem with
this. Phone number is (510) 526 1325. (August, 2003)
- I highly recommend Dana Meyer for auto repair. They are at
700 San Pablo Ave. (@Castro) in Albany. They're pricey, but excellent and they
do foreign cars. (510) 527-1938. (August, 2003)
-
I always take my car to McAlindon's on Valencia Street in San
Francisco because they never cheat, never try to sell something one doesn't
need, and they're reasonably priced. (August, 20003)
- Narasaki's Automotive, 1319 Wright Ave. (just west of
Marina Way So.) (510) 234-6779. They gave me excellent service on my Subaru,
and now that my new Sub is falling out of warranty, I will be back with them.
Small, mostly family, operation. (August, 2003)
- Fairmount Auto in El Cerrito - 6525 Fairmont Ave. across
from the plaza - is great -- John saved me many $$$. It's also convenient to
the Bart station if you want to work or play while your car is being fixed.
(510) 524-0313 (March, 2005)
- Crockett's Premier Auto Body shop is excellent. I have had good
service and excellent workmanship there. 900 San Pablo Ave. Pinole (510)
741-9001. (August, 2003)
- We have used Auto Point Motors a couple of times, and have
been completely happy with the service. Prices seemed reasonable, and the work
was done on time. And of course it is great that it is so convenient. I would
recommend them. 999 West Cutting Blvd., Richmond (510) 232-0000. (August,
2003)
- I highly recommend BAVARIAN PROFESSIONALS, 1218 Seventh St.
(off Gilman), 510-524-6000. They thoroughly explain work suggested and
performed, do needed inspections, have been patient with my questions
AND PROVIDE LOANER CARS!!! All this at very reasonable (is it really
possible to use that word in the same sentence as 'BMW'?!) rates. (September,
2003)
Body Work
-
Stewart's Body Shop at 12540 San
Pablo Ave, Richmond, did a fine job repairing body damage on my 7 year old
Honda. I had hesitated repairing it because it was only cosmetic and the car
is 7 years old. But I found they are happy to cut costs by using used parts
and by doing a less than perfect job, as I wished. This made the cost
reasonable for the circumstances. They were efficient, did a great job. The
$ estimate was a bit low and the estimated time for repair a bit low at the
outset, corrected later. I think this is standard for the industry. I was
very pleased, the car looks so much better, and I would not hesitate
taking in a newer car for perfect repair should the occasion arise. (May,
2008)
-
Crebassa’s in San Rafael is an excellent
autobody shop (AAA preferred provider and good relations with GEICO et al).
Impeccable work done right the first time. (April, 2008)
-
Ida - I would highly recommend Chris and
Steve at Classic Autobody on Gilman in Berkeley. The have good
relationships with insurers and do first class work. I've had a lot of
personal experience with them and it has all been good (April, 2008)
- I went to George Arth & Sons after my car was hit and I was
pleased with their work. 110 10th Street, Oakland,
(510)
836-2535 (April, 2008)
-
In response to the request for a
recommended body repair shop, we were very happy with the repairs to Lynne’s
car after it was stolen. Here is the information: San Pablo Auto Body, 2031
Rumrill Blvd. #11, San Pablo, CA 94806, 510-231-0722. They were very
courteous, responsive and professional. (April, 2008)
- I highly recommend
West Wind Automotive, 351 Valencia Street, San
Francisco, CA 94103, 415-621-6218 (April 2008)
-
We highly recommend 101 Auto Body, at
1223 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley (559-8819), which we have used several times
for car accidents major and minor. It's also a AAA recommended shop, so
there was never any difficulty dealing with insurance. (April, 2008)
-
Ida, I can't recommend Albany Body Shop
highly enough. They made my Subaru look better than new after having the
front end practically sheared off by a Toyota 4Runner in an intersection.
