Where to Buy New Appliances
- Mike's Appliance was very helpful when I needed to get
advice about what to do when the 20 year old Hot Point range in our condo
went out. They told me what the estimate to repair it would be($150 service
call fee plus parts and labor), and also what an economic replacement would
cost (under $300 for a basic range plus $60 for the installation and removal
of the old range). I chose to put in the new basic range. Mike's Appliance
is in Richmond on Appian Way, 510-233-8689. (December, 2007)
- In shopping for a new fridge, we found exceptional deals at the
Sears Appliance Outlet in San Leandro - much better than at Airport
Appliance and other highly touted outlet stores. We purchased a black fridge
with French doors and bottom freezer for $784, currently available from
Sears at $1,499. Our unit has a small "dimple" on the left side and a tiny
scratch on the bottom drawer - otherwise, it comes with the same warranty as
for new, unblemished Sears' appliances. It was delivered the next day after
purchase. (November, 2006)
- Galvin Appliances have been our sole source of appliances for the last
10 years.......washer/dryer/ frig/2 micro-waves w/ a difficult install that
looks terrific/ replacement gas stove grills( low cost and perfect)/ even a
garbage disposal. Superb knowledge/ thoughtful, careful delivery crews (some
sales personnel started in delivery)/ great follow-up with after-sale
questions. On one occasion, they even would NOT sell me the new frig yet ,
as their service tech said ours was still in good order----and a wait would
get me a better deal/ price/options( they were right!) Long-term staff,
low turnover of good service techs. With Galvin...you won't go wrong. I've
No connection to Galvin , other than as a repeat customer---I won't go else
where. PS. Galvin even assisted me in picking a new frig for a Mother's Day
gift in Sacramento ---and an excellent Sacto store to buy it from and
deliver. Galvin didn't make a dime on the deal---they just wanted
to help me out (August, 2006)

I have an end unit in the "D" building and I had the same problem (32"
closet depth). I ordered from Sears and they were useless ... the
delivery guys did not have a clue about how to make things fit and
they were totally unprofessional and rude. So I went to Galvin
Appliances on San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito. The sales person was
extremely helpful and when I explained my dilemma and the nightmare of
the Sears delivery they sent out their best guys to install my washer
and dryer. They were wonderful!!! I now have a full size Maytag
Neptune washer and dryer. The separate (side by side) ones just
barely fit with a special flat dryer vent attachment (the
stacking version simply would not fit). I also had to adjust the
closet doors slightly but that was not difficult. I would strongly
recommend Galvin Appliances. We put a Kenmore 94702 (not the
smallest) in a 32 inch space
