Ant Invasion!

I have had ants, but not any more. I put a line of boric acid at the
back of my kitchen shelves and that took care of the problem. (June, 2007)
Ants are attracted to water. Check all pipes if
there is no leak in the suite perhaps the ants are just their place as a road
way to the water supply in someone else suite. Trying to discourage ants from invading the home can be frustrating. Proper food
storage and waste management will reduce the food that often attracts workers
indoors. Clean all kitchen surfaces, vacuum daily, and rinse recyclable
containers before storage. Ant trails can be temporarily disrupted with a mild
solution of vinegar and water. Sticky barriers using commercially available
materials, such as Tanglefoot or Stickem, or water moats containing soapy water,
can be used to prevent ants from reaching plants or other items. Caulk cracks
that ants are using to enter the home. (June, 2007)

For the ant problem, we have bought some Grant's Ant Killer (can be
purchased at target or grocery store) and have placed them around outside
and inside (keep out of reach of pets tho!)- we are still waiting on
results. Other than that - constant cleaning seems to help out as well -
that way their trails are wiped clean to keep others away - or so it seems
(so far)! (June, 2007)

Every year we face the ant problem. I have noticed it happens either
after a heavy rain, or a heat wave. I have always wondered why the
association does not provide perimeter spraying for the buildings. My
experience is that no matter how much you spray in your unit, if the
grounds surrounding the property re not treated it is a losing battle.

"Grants Ant Stakes" usually control the
problem within 10 days. Just place the devices in strategic locations
close to the ants and "forgetaboutit" They are available at ACE down on
Cutting. (June, 2007)

I live in a third floor end unit (1301), and
yes, I've had an annual ant invasion for the last three years, even with
keeping all food stored, counters clean, etc. This year I've had the best
success controlling the ant invasion. In past years I've tried the various
ant control formulas which the ants are supposed to consume, take to the
nest, and over the course of a few days, the nest is supposed to die.
However, I've had only limited success, as the ants have never taken
enough of any of the formulas to completely kill the nest. This year I
tried using two different formulas, placed of course at entry points, and
mashed the formula with maple syrup. Well, it took about a week to take
full effect and in the short run the ant invasion actually increased as
the ants really swarmed their maple syrup cocktail. Now, for about three
weeks running, I've had no ant invasion of significance. Hope this helps!
