Kitchen Remodel Recommendations
My husband did our kitchen remodel and it is lovely…. We just finished a bathroom remodel turning one of the bathroom tubs into a walk in shower and it was done by Fred Olaguez who I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. He’s a neighbor and general contractor. His prices were very reasonable and the work done in a timely manner. It was great that he lives right in Brickyard in the A building (where I live). I know Fred also did a kitchen for my neighbors…. Just thought I'd pass the word on a contractor we have used and known for a long time. Mares & Dow Construction of Martinez. Their work can be viewed at maresdow.com (My husband and I own one of the units in the Pinnacle which we expect to use as a second home eventually. Currently we live in Washington state and rent the unit via Ida). Archie Mares and Dennis Dow own the business, and have for over 20 years. We have had them remodel the kitchen and bathroom at a complex where we own a condo in Martinez. They do excellent work. They have done home remodels, custom building and commercial remodels from Antioch to Benicia to Solano County to Marin County to San Francisco. Please take a look at their website. They have quite an extensive portfolio, especially when it comes to kitchens - Postrio, Masa's and Kuleto's in San Francisco. I grew up with Archie and Dennis in Vallejo. They are really great to work with, and very down to earth. When we decide to move into our condo at the Pinnacle, we plan to have Archie and Dennis install hardwood flooring, crown molding, a customized fireplace surround and other upgrades. They did a total remodel of a ranch home for my brother and sister-in-law in Vallejo - it is gorgeous!!! I know recently they have been working in Lafayette and Orinda. The prices and selection on kitchen appliances at Friedman’s (925-808-2937) were pretty good, plus I think they also sell cabinets, etc. tho I wasn’t paying as much attention to that. Hugh Smith (415-382-8864) is doing a lot of interior work for us in our new Pinnacle unit, including some custom pieces, and I’m impressed w/his work ethic and work quality. (March, 2005)
