General Repair Recommendations

Would like to put another recommendation for Jose and Javier Santos brothers in your handyman section.

They have been absolutely great in finishing our Project. Excellent work, reasonable rates, kept the Project on schedule, kept everything clean and they always show respect for your privacy and individual requirements. In response to a solicitation left at my door I had a BYL neighbor perform some handyman chores. Later I realized that the vinyl floor tiles did not come to the edge of the carpet, so the gap was filled with caulking (unbeknownst to me until it started to wear away). The bathroom and vanity painting was done (but he omitted the ceiling!). At the same time I referred him to an employer who used him for a variety of handyman tasks. One day (when I was not in the office) he asked for and received a $400 check for supplies to repair a fence. The check was cashed the same day, and he has not been seen since despite phone calls and letters. Small claims court will be required to settle the matter.My warning would be to beware of unsolicited mailers left at the door, and not to use Mike Maltzahn specifically as his skills and reliability are questionable. Jose and his brother Javier describe themselves as "full service handy men" and that is an understatement. After seeing their excellent work on another BYL condo, I asked for a quote on painting two rooms, replacing the vanity in the guest bath, and a few other tasks. Mark Barthman recently did several different jobs for us (Feb, 2008.) He painted one of our bedrooms, including the baseboards and molding. We were very satisfied with the result.  Mark also refurbished one of our shower-tubs.  He cleaned out the old sealant, resealed and re- caulked the entire shower area, and he cleaned out the overhead vent (which, by the way, after 22 years here at Brickyard, was sorely in need of attention.)  Along the way, Mark took care of quite a number of other small tasks--fixing loose door handles, tightening up electric outlet plates, and helping us move some book shelves and other items.  Mark does TV repair as a hobby.  He can be quite helpful in refurbishing TVs and hooking up a variety of components. Again, we were quite happy with his work.  In another month or so, we'll ask Mark to clean our windows.  Over the years, Mark has helped us keep our windows clean.  We're glad to know he has other talents as well.  He's honest and hardworking. I would like to recommend Mark Barth 724-0800 for odd jobs: plumbing repairs, painting, light electrical, grout work etc. He is thorough, honest, hard working and reasonable.  We think of Mark as a "window washer" but he is so much more.  He would especially like more work in the winter when it is not window washing time. Mike Ricco has been helping me for the past eight years with all the small home projects I can come up with. I have used both Harvey (367-5364) and Gillis (467-9154) of our BYL maintenance staff, when they are not working here.  They have been very helpful, courteous, accommodating, and reasonably priced.  They also can respond quickly, since they are here already and can come right after work or on their days off.  (February, 2007)

I had Mark Barthman wash windows and make a few repairs. As always he did an outstanding job, but the really good news is that Mark is now easy to contact.
