Computer Repair Recommendations

When our computer crashed, we contacted Nerd Crossing in El Sobrante and enjoyed a positive experience from our first phone call. Although it was just a day before Thanksgiving, they sent a tech to our home in less than two hours. The problem was with our motherboard and they could have tried to replace it at an hourly rate; however, they advised us to purchase a new computer, providing specs, prices, and other information to enable us to make an educated decision. We delivered the new computer to their office on Wednesday afternoon and they worked on it until around 6pm when I suggested they quit to enjoy time with their families. Our computer, with all data successfully transferred, was delivered to us at 10am on Friday morning. Everything is working perfectly and we have had no glitches which usually occur with new computers . . . unlike our earlier experiences with another "geek" group.

If you have a problem with your computer and/or network, I recommend Ken Faria as a resource. I recently had a tricky problem with my computer and he did a great job fixing it for me. Some of you will remember Ken from a few years back when he did maintenance here at Brickyard Landing. He's since shifted his focus to Information Technology, has several Microsoft certifications, and is really amazing at what he does. He's fixed things the Best Buy Geek Squad has given up on, and he does it at a much better price! He is available to help with computer/network setup as well. Ken offers a discount for Brickyard Landing folks and can be reached at 510-823-6454. (August, 2011)

Brad Hampton of Sea Geeks just worked on my computer and I heartily, unreservedly recommend his company to my Brickyard neighbors.  Co-owned by him and his wife, Kim, one may find out more about them at http://www.seageeks.com/ .  He's quite a knowledgeable and likable fellow. (July, 2008)

I wanted to let you (and through you, others) know that I met a fellow yesterday who does IT (computer) work. I thought I would give his name to you so you could pass it along. He works for Armor Locksmith in town doing their IT work, so he was familiar with Brickyard because of all the work they do here. He charges $40/hr but is open to negotiating whatever someone is able to pay. Gilbert Quintela, Computer Technician (510)233-3798 / (510)685-2239 (cell) guquintela@yahoo.com  (March, 2007)

Here’s an excellent resource.  He’s helped me many times, does a great job, and has reasonable rates. (For PCs / not MACs) - Norman Scally, Scally Computechs, (415) 845-6493 (February, 2007)

I recommend the Geek Squad to help with computer problems . . . for $98 session, they will work with you, via telephone and pc anywhere, until problems are resolved. If a problem isn't solved with first tech, they move you up to more experienced tech . . . took four techs to resolve my problem but well worth it and much cheaper than a house call. (February, 2007)

I just had service from Steve Vance, a computer systems engineer, who moonlights on personal computer problems. He was recommended to me by the president of the Golden Gate Computer Club in Marin. Steve lives in Marin and works in Oakland so we are right on his way.  I was pleased with how he cleaned up my many problems and backed up all  my  data.  Took the PC with him and brought it back a few days later. His charge was $100.  Thought he was very reasonable and nice to deal with. 415-492-8260 or email, stv@well.com  (February, 2007)

I've been pleased with Computer Shoot, taken from the Yellow Pages.  222-8953 or 417-527.  He came to the condo, so there was no need to take the CPU anywhere. (February, 2007)

I know a great young couple living in Point Richmond that are super computer geeks and have their own Computer Repair/Install Service.  Brad and Kim Hampton can be reached at 1-800-709-1940 or see their website http://www.seageeks.com/.  They do anything with electronic and computers.  They set up our new stereo system and are now purchasing and setting up my new home computer system.  Mention Brickyard Realty and get a 10% discount (Please note - this is NOT an endorsement by Brickyard Realty. This recommendation was written by one of our neighbors.)(February, 2007)
